Be The Match

Be The Match uses miles raised to directly support patients by transporting donors who have matched to a donation location. Miles are also used to help volunteer couriers who pick up donated stem cells travel to deliver them to patients around the globe and to help caregivers travel to assist patients with their recovery. Not only do the miles from the United MileagePlus program support Be The Match, a few United employees are volunteering their time to help, too. Alex Z. from San Diego Airport Operations is a regular volunteer courier. During the COVID-19 crisis, he has supported Be The Match by volunteering as a general aviation flight coordinator. He works with private pilots, large and small corporations, and volunteer pilot organizations coordinating flights for donors, as well as couriers transporting blood stem cell products from Canada. For people with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, or blood disorders like sickle cell, a cure exists. Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), connects patients with their genetically matched donors for a life-saving transplant and provides patients and their families one-on-one support before, during and after treatment. You can make a difference by joining the Be The Match Registry®, giving financially or volunteering. Be The Match exists so more lives can be saved.
